Roque de los Muchachos Visitor's Center
Creation of specific software for the astronomical museum of La Palma.
At an altitude of 2,400 meters, surrounded by an enviable environment that guarantees spectacular conditions for astronomical observation, is the Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Center. It is one of the most important astrophysics observatories in the world.
Through the application of the latest technology, the Visitor Center is able to bring La Palma’s Astronomy closer.
The Visitor Center is divided into several rooms equipped with innovative solutions:
- Welcome Room: where we will find a large interactive table where we will discover with tactile menus the guts of the telescopes of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory.
- Room 1 “Canary Islands, a window to the Universe”: is equipped with a virtual reality device that allows the user to experience in a realistic way the formation of the famous Sea of Clouds along with a futuristic Video Mapping.
- Room 2 “Exploring the Universe”: to explore every corner of the universe we find some innovative experiments with thermal cameras and lights, Holograms that break down the telescopes and show in detail the celestial bodies, Virtual Reality devices and the use of Augmented Reality to realistically show the planets of the solar system.
- Room 3 “Back to Earth”: Through a realistic model we can observe with Augmented Reality the points of interest complemented with Virtual Reality glasses.
Challenge
Cabildo de la Palma, the City Council of Garafía and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias IAC have collaborated to create the Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Center and with Innoarea Projects has been equipped with the latest software to bring the sky of La Palma closer to the world.
Solution
With a total of 15 solutions developed by Innoarea Projects in its entirety, the Visitor Center shows in an innovative and technological way all the complexity of the Universe and the island of La Palma.
Technology
Through touch screens, holograms, Virtual Reality devices, Augmented Reality, Video Mapping and proximity sensors, it has been possible to meet the requirements of the Visitor Center.
