The challenge: Connecting with new generations in guidance processes

The main challenge lay in the need to modernise INAEM’s interventions in order to attract younger people. Traditional methods often fail when attempting to generate deep reflection on team roles and personal performance in future work environments.

The aim was to find a tool that was not only attractive, but also served as a catalyst for self-reflection and generated positive synergies between participants and assessors. The objective was to turn problem solving into a motivating factor for the development of employability skills.

The solution: A multi-user virtual ecosystem for soft skills training

Innoarea developed a virtual reality (VR) application and a PC control tool that allows up to 20 users to immerse themselves simultaneously in a training session. Through Meta Quest glasses, young people access rooms designed to work on five key skills: creativity, teamwork, communication, time management, and resilience.

The solution is divided into two roles: the VR user, who interacts with the environment using hand tracking technology or controllers, and the administrator (PC), who acts as a moderator. The latter has full control over the session, being able to mute users, change rooms, or launch real-time assessments whose results are automatically exported for accurate tracking.

  • Up to 3 counsellors can lead the session from a PC, observing everything through six strategically placed cameras
  • Allows users to interact with 3D objects using their own hands, increasing realism and accessibility.
  • Digitised spaces representing offices, warehouses and meeting rooms for total immersion
  • Moderators complete forms after each challenge, which are synchronised in a CSV file for data analysis

Key findings

The implementation of VR Competencies has revitalised the activities of the network of employment offices, facilitating much more fluid and participatory group dynamics. Not only do participants feel more engaged in the process, but the immersive nature of the challenges (such as office role-play or warehouse logistics management) facilitates a more effective transfer of learning to real life.

For INAEM, the main benefit is obtaining objective data on candidates’ performance. The ability to observe reactions to stress or leadership skills in real time provides counsellors with a unique insight that traditional interviews cannot offer.
