University training through Virtual Reality for the UCV

The Universidad Católica of Valencia San Vicente Mártir (UCV) is a private institution of higher education and research with different campuses in Valencia, Edetania, Torrent, La Ribera and La Costera. With Medical Training Platform, medical and nursing students can now put their acquired knowledge into practice in a controlled virtual environment and become future high-level professionals. The virtual platform presents unlimited functions which create a very complete immersive learning experience, similar to face-to-face classes but with some advantages.

Challenge

The University of Valencia's goal was to teach medical and nursing students to improve their skills by practicing what they study in order to be more self-confident and to be able to provide better care to future patients. The challenge is to find a tool that enables experiential learning for students and in this specific case healthcare professionals, simulating real situations they may face

Solution

From now on, students of the Nursing and Medicine degrees will be able to train using the Medical Training Platform. This is the Virtual Reality software developed by Innoarea Projects to train future health professionals. The design presents a realistic 3D environment and an intuitive interface that authentically simulates an operating room. The APP allows future health professionals to have the possibility to practice their knowledge and develop their skills in specific situations

Technology

For this project we have chosen the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality device, which allows us to achieve the highest graphic quality as it works connected to a computer. The Oculus Insight system works at room scale, allowing users to move around a real space to interact with the application. The Rift S viewer has five sensors to track movement, with a system that enhances the tracking of the closest position to improve the sensation when grasping and pointing to objects in the virtual experience
