Laser hair removal training with virtual reality

Immersive training for aesthetic centers

The challenge: Overcoming the barriers of traditional technical training without risks

Providing practical training in laser hair removal poses a critical challenge for beauty teachers. Traditional methods depend on the availability of extremely expensive equipment and, more importantly, on practising with real models. This dependency limits students’ flying hours, slows down the development of their motor skills and creates understandable insecurity when handling technology that can cause injury if not used correctly.

The need for specialised infrastructure and constantly monitored environments restricted the scalability of the courses. The main challenge was to democratise access to intensive practice, allowing students to make mistakes, learn from them and perfect their technique in a 100% safe, digital and highly realistic environment.

My commitment to excellence has led me to integrate virtual reality into aesthetic training to inspire future generations. This technology allows us to train highly qualified professionals with a holistic and cutting-edge approach, ensuring that learning complex techniques such as laser treatment is a safe, accurate experience with visible results.

The solution: High-fidelity virtual simulation and assessment platform

We developed a custom virtual reality application, installable on VR headsets, that faithfully recreates a professional beauty salon. The solution includes detailed 3D modelling of the client’s specific machinery and a generic environment that immerses the student in daily operations. By programming complex instructions and interactions, students can set up the machine, prepare the patient and perform the treatment in a guided and repetitive manner.

To maximise pedagogical effectiveness, the tool allows users to choose between different types of patients and avatar positions, covering a variety of clinical scenarios. In addition, the ecosystem is complemented by a web-based management platform. While students practise in the virtual world, teachers can monitor their progress, evaluate compliance with protocols in real time, and offer personalised feedback based on objective performance data.

Key findings

The implementation of this technology has marked a turning point in Cristina Laborda’s aesthetic training. Students have gone from passive observation to active learning through “learning by doing,” which has dramatically reduced the learning curve and increased retention of technical protocols. By eliminating the fear of error, students experiment more boldly with equipment settings, gaining a better understanding of the physics behind each treatment.

From a logistical point of view, the solution allows multiple students to be trained simultaneously without the need for several high-cost laser machines in the classroom. The end result is a class of professionals who are much better prepared, confident in their technique and familiar with cutting-edge technology, positioning the centre at the forefront of education in the health and beauty sector.
