Silman 97: VR Simulator
Virtual Reality occupational risk prevention tool
This virtual reality experience has been developed in collaboration with Silman 97 and occupational safety experts, aiming to raise awareness among workers about the risks associated with working at heights.
We designed a 3D environment representing a construction site. Users can explore the site, interact with tools and materials, and climb to the roof. The attention to detail, from cranes to roofing panels, ensures an immersive experience.
The experience begins with the selection of PPE, where a variety of options are presented that will determine the course of the experience. Subsequently, the user must climb to the roof via scaffolding, with the experience differing based on whether the appropriate equipment was chosen. Through realistic movements and processes, the user can place different panels on the roof. Next, a fall occurs when the panel placed under the user’s feet breaks. Depending on whether the user chose to wear a harness, two types of falls can be experienced.
Our height fall simulator has been a success in worker training. We have received positive feedback from construction and maintenance companies regarding this virtual reality occupational risk prevention tool.
Challenge
Our challenge was to create a virtual reality tool for effective training that allows workers to realistically experience the risks of falling from a roof and the need for proper use of PPE to avoid dangerous situations.
Solution
An interactive 3D environment that allows users to safely and thoroughly experience the risks of working at heights. The simulation includes choosing PPE, climbing to the roof, and placing panels, with a focus on demonstrating the real consequences of not using the appropriate equipment.
Technology
Unity was used for developing the experience, designed for Meta Quest 2 headsets.
