Augmented reality and Industry 4.0 for Faurecia

Interactive, real-time visualisation for industrial processes

The challenge: Optimising access to real-time operational information

In a highly automated and demanding industrial environment such as the automotive sector, the speed of decision-making depends directly on access to information. Faurecia needed an innovative system capable of providing its operators and technicians with an immediate overview of key data relating to machinery and production lines directly on the shop floor.

Added to this context was the holding of an international in-house innovation fair, at which the Valencian Community’s headquarters sought to showcase a unique technological development. The main challenge was to design a system that was agile, intuitive and easy to implement on the shop floor, using accessible displays to present technical and operational information in real time.

Faurecia

One of the world’s leading suppliers of automotive components, a benchmark in innovation and industrial digitalisation.

The solution: An augmented reality app based on scanning QR codes

We developed our own augmented reality application tailored to Faurecia’s operational needs. The tool allows users to scan QR codes located on machinery using a mobile device or tablet to instantly display layers of interactive 3D information superimposed on the physical environment.

Using this technology, the application connects to plant systems to provide live performance metrics and indicators. This enables operators to inspect components, monitor the status of processes and oversee machine operation in real time, whilst maintaining the exact proportions and dimensions of the equipment.

Key findings

The roll-out of this augmented reality solution enabled Faurecia to make a significant impact at its international technology trade fair, establishing its Valencia site as an internal benchmark for the Cockpit of the Future initiative. Beyond the event itself, the application provided a practical tool for modernising manufacturing processes and preventive maintenance.

Thanks to the integration of AR technology, plant staff reduced verification times and improved the accuracy of their interpretation of operational data. The user-friendliness of the QR code-based system ensured rapid adoption without disrupting normal workflows, fostering a culture of innovation within the organisation.
