Virtual tour of the Cupa Pizarras mines

Virtual reality to learn about the slate extraction process

The challenge: Bringing underground mining anywhere in the world

Explaining the technical complexity and scale of an underground mining operation such as San Vicente is a considerable logistical challenge. On-site visits are limited by strict safety protocols and the difficulty of travelling to the extraction chambers, which can reach dimensions of 200 metres long and 50 metres high.

The aim was to create a marketing and sales tool capable of condensing the entire value chain, from opening the chamber to transporting the blocks, into an immersive experience that maintained technical rigour but was attractive for trade fairs and showrooms.

Experiencia de realidad virtual para visitar las minas de Cupa Pizarras

The solution: Virtual guided tour for total immersion in the industrial process

We developed a virtual reality experience that takes users through different key scenes in the mine. The solution uses a fluid narrative with voice-over that guides users through newly opened chambers, drilling zones and loading areas, allowing them to observe heavy machinery in operation from a perspective that would otherwise be impossible to obtain.

To maximise engagement, we integrated interactive elements such as signage to identify the machinery (drills and diamond wire cutters). The experience culminates with a direct message from the Managing Director, Eduardo Mera, in a virtual showroom.

Gafas de realidad virtual Meta Quest 3
  • Navigate through 9 realistic scenes, from inside the galleries to the surface
  • Guided narrative that increases immersion and understanding of technical processes
  • Language selection option for use at international trade fairs
  • Interactive signage that identifies heavy machinery in real time

Key findings

The implementation of this virtual tour allows Cupa Pizarras to demonstrate its production capacity and the quality of its slate blocks without the need to transport customers to the physical mine. This eliminates occupational hazards associated with visits and drastically reduces logistical costs, allowing the mine to travel with the sales team to any international event.

Furthermore, the use of virtual reality reinforces the brand’s image of innovation and leadership. Users not only receive technical information, but also experience the real scale of the industry, creating an emotional connection and a much deeper understanding of the product than any traditional catalogue could provide.
