Applícate and Virtual Reality against the Digital Divide in Murcia

The campaign ‘Applícate‘, launched by the Integra Foundation, is revolutionizing digital skills training for vulnerable groups. As part of this initiative, Innoarea has developed an innovative virtual reality experience in collaboration with Silman 97. We will now explore the details of this exciting project and its impact on the community.

The “Applícate” Campaign to reduce the digital divide

The “Applícate” campaign is an ambitious initiative driven by the Integra Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Digital Transformation of the Region of Murcia. Its main objective is to reduce the digital divide affecting various vulnerable groups, including people over 65, long-term unemployed individuals, and residents of rural areas. With the support of Next Generation EU Funds, this campaign aims to promote access to the Information Society and improve participants’ quality of life.

The “Applícate” strategy is based on the implementation of three mobile classrooms, designed as innovative training spaces. These vehicles will travel through 45 municipalities in the Region of Murcia over a period of two years, offering free training in digital skills. The mobile classrooms are equipped with advanced technology, such as individual computer stations, interactive kiosks, and virtual reality setups, providing an interactive and stimulating learning environment.

The campaign’s commitment includes ensuring that at least 50% of the participants are women, promoting inclusion and equal opportunities in digital training access. With a training curriculum designed to cover both basic and advanced digital skills, “Applícate” provides participants with essential tools to handle online administrative tasks, identify suspicious emails, and explore new job and personal development opportunities.

Our solution: A virtual reality experience

At Innoarea, we are proud to have contributed to the “Applícate” campaign by developing a virtual reality experience specifically designed for this initiative. In collaboration with Silman 97, we have created a virtual reality application that includes three playful and educational activities, designed to immerse users in an innovative and stimulating virtual environment.

The application consists of three main activities aimed at both entertainment and learning digital skills:

  • Exploration and puzzle solving: Two of the activities focus on solving puzzles, where users must search for and find various objects in a virtual environment to solve a mystery presented to them. These activities are designed to enhance problem-solving skills and encourage critical thinking, while users become familiar with basic digital concepts.
  • Virtual travel with 360-Degree images: The third activity allows users to virtually travel to different parts of the world through 360º images. This experience is not only educational and entertaining but also broadens users’ horizons.

The application is designed to be used with Meta Quest 2 and later versions. These virtual reality devices are standalone and portable, eliminating the need for a computer connection or cables, making them easy to use in mobile environments like the campaign’s classrooms.

The implementation of the virtual reality experience we developed for the “Applícate” campaign is starting to show its impact on the digital inclusion of vulnerable groups in the Region of Murcia. Through the mobile classrooms, this initiative is bringing digital skills training to people who might otherwise have been excluded from technological advancements.

The “Applícate” campaign is just one example of Innoarea’s commitment to innovation and digital inclusion. Our team continues to develop advanced technological solutions to address various social and educational challenges.
