A clear example of this is the use of <strong>virtual reality<\/strong> to <strong>reduce fear and pain<\/strong> during <strong>pediatric procedures<\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/innoarea.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Innoarea Projects<\/a><\/strong>, in collaboration with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/medios.uchceu.es\/actualidad-ceu\/publican-los-resultados-sobre-uso-de-realidad-virtual-inmersiva-durante-la-vacunacion-pediatrica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera (CEU UCH)<\/a><\/strong>, has developed an immersive virtual reality experience that has proven to be <strong>highly effective<\/strong> in pediatric vaccination. Below, we will explain in more detail the project and its results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Virtual Reality Experience for Pediatric Vaccination<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/innoarea.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Innoarea Projects<\/a><\/strong> embarked on developing a <strong>virtual reality experience<\/strong> aimed at <strong>alleviating the fear and pain<\/strong> experienced by <strong>children<\/strong> during <strong>vaccination<\/strong>. This technology was implemented in collaboration with the research team from the <strong>Department of Nursing and Physiotherapy at Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera<\/strong>. The project was conducted at the Tres Forques Health Center in Valencia, where a <strong>clinical trial<\/strong> involving 162 children took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The virtual reality experience created by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/innoarea.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Innoarea Projects<\/a><\/strong> immersed children in an <strong>interactive and engaging environment<\/strong> during the vaccination process. To be more specific, the experience involves a series of <strong>fun minigames<\/strong> where children must complete <strong>puzzles<\/strong> and interact with animals. Equipped with <strong>virtual reality goggles<\/strong>, children were able to explore virtual worlds and participate in activities that <strong>distracted their attention<\/strong> from the medical procedure. Median pain scores were 67.3 in the virtual reality group versus 95.3 in the control group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fear Reduction<\/span><\/strong>: Similarly, <strong>fear levels were significantly lower<\/strong> in the virtual reality group. Median fear scores were 73.9 in the virtual reality group compared to 88.9 in the control group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Higher Parental Satisfaction<\/span><\/strong>: Parents&#8217; <strong>satisfaction <\/strong>with the vaccination procedure was<strong> notably higher<\/strong> in the virtual reality group. Median satisfaction scores were 87.4 for the virtual reality group versus 73.6 for the control group. This<strong> increase in parental satisfaction<\/strong> may contribute to <strong>better adherence to the vaccination schedule<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Independence of Gender and Age<\/span><\/strong>: The study also found that <strong>pain and fear did not vary significantly based on the child&#8217;s gender<\/strong>. However, younger children reported more pain than older children, although this did not affect the effectiveness of VR in reducing fear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These results underscore the <strong>potential of virtual reality<\/strong> as an <strong>effective and accessible tool<\/strong> to enhance the vaccination experience in children, reducing pain and fear while increasing parental satisfaction. Among its <strong>key benefits<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pain and anxiety reduction<\/span><\/strong>: VR is used as a <strong>distraction tool <\/strong>during painful procedures, helping to reduce the patient&#8217;s perception of pain and anxiety. This is particularly useful in pediatric vaccination, as demonstrated by the project &#8220;Child Vaccines, No Fear of Pain!&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Medical training and simulation<\/span><\/strong>: VR enables healthcare professionals to <strong>practice complex procedures in a safe and controlled environment<\/strong>.
