Gas Tank Simulation for Spirit Energy

VR Training to increase operational safety and efficiency

The challenge: Reducing operational risks in critical maintenance

Spirit Energy, as a company in the energy sector, operates in highly demanding environments where human errors can have serious safety and cost implications. Gas tank maintenance requires precision, technical knowledge, and a clear understanding of safety protocols. Training personnel for these tasks without interrupting operations or endangering workers presented a significant challenge.

The client needed a solution that would allow their technical teams to train in the most realistic conditions possible, without needing access to physical facilities. Additionally, it was essential to assess compliance with internal procedures and ensure that each technician could make the right decisions in real-life scenarios, replicating the pressure and complexity of the operational environment.

Training & Development Team

Innoarea’s VR simulation has transformed the way we train our technicians. They can now practice in a safe, realistic, and repeatable environment, which leads to greater confidence and accuracy in the field. The tool not only enhances training but also allows us to identify and correct errors before they occur in real situations.

The solution: Immersive environment that replicates every valve and protocol

We developed a Virtual Reality simulation for Meta Quest 3 headsets that faithfully recreates the interior and exterior of the tanks, the tools, and the working conditions. The scenario guides users step by step: component identification, visual inspection, incident reporting, and application of safety protocols.

The application evaluates each action in real time, logs critical errors, and provides immediate feedback. A complementary web platform allows trainers to review session metrics, identify areas for improvement, and track each worker’s progress.

Key Results

The immersive training allowed Spirit Energy to certify new technicians without interrupting real tank operations, reducing logistical costs and associated risks. Trainers report that operators enter the real environment with greater confidence and a stronger grasp of procedures.

Additionally, the analysis of data collected through the web platform supports continuous improvement: guides have been optimized, redundant steps removed, and preventive measures reinforced — all contributing to raising the company’s overall safety standards.
